ok so i just spent the past 5 min wasting my time reading all of this. lol Ok so someone went down the powerlines... im not trying to start anything BUT some people are allowed.. MY friend has permission from VA power to go wheeling down a set of powerlines near his place. (not lieing or making up) Has writen contract signed and all. it states that if there is any damage that is found he will have to pay for it and will not be allowed to wheel. Oh and did i mention he knows that guy really well and all he has to do is give him a call before or after he goes wheeling. If anyone is going to be wheeling with him there is a name and number for him to call and give discription and tags off of vehicle. I myself have ridden with him once or twice. both times heard him speack to this person. the one time we got stopped on our way out by a police man who was really nice to us and actually looked at the contract contacted this person and let us go on our way.
Now i know this post was just a hint to not do it. People will still do it, there is no way to stop them. (sept a troll apparently) To call the cops i wouldnt, to follow them to get tags Hell no! could get caught yourself. would stop and talk to the guy yes. warn him if i see it again then yes ill call the police on him.
its allways good to know people who know people. MAke a couple calls it could change everything. Theres people with land thats just there who actually wouldnt mind lending it to an offroader.
oh and as illegal offroading leading to closing of ohv parks. Negative most close from errosion and chemicals getting into water. This would most likly lead to more openings honestly. I see it as they would think it would bring more people to do it legally.

If someones doing something illegal they will most likely get caught eventually but for another Jeeper to call on them is a little bogus |
Putting aside the land use impact that it has on us all, it also has huge environmental impacts. Humans, on a daily basis, cause such a massive impact on the environment and ecology simply because we do not care most of the time. We are all guilty of this. Some of the greatest, and most impressive animals known are now extinct, or at least extinct in the wild, because we don't think about the impact of our actions. It may not be affecting your life NOW, but some day that might change. |
So do you have a 4wd bike? So this has no environmental impact if you are in a park?

Ya know I used to love the 80's model monte carlo's....the SS for some reason just seemed snazzy...however...looking a it now...you can't find a monte without the number 24...or 3 in the back window....or some other sort of nascar junk on it...lol |
Its not the nascar stickers in teh window that makes them a POS, they are the Monte Carlo....they are just a POS!!! Also about as much of a race car as the VW bettle.

Whats more of an impact 4wheelers or northern virginia being cleared out of any woods for yuppies so they can have a condo the size of a tuna can and an endless ocean of pavement?
How about the powerlines being built? I would say clearing out woods for that is way more of an impact....but I guess I'm wrong because I'm just a human in a jeep..... |
No kidding.

Wow. I know I'm not an established member here but it seems to me this may have been taken a bit far. Someone did something illegal. Yeah it happens. Everyday. VA state vehicle inspection laws state it is unlawful to modify suspension parts in a way to negatively affect performance. Calling the cops on a lifted jeep gonna earn you a lot of points around here. I also believe there are laws on the books that are a bit too broad and that’s why cops have the option in most cases to ticket or arrest. For the record the last time I got caught doing a wheelie I stopped, was respectful and courteous and ended up with an illegal lane change ticket. By the way how many legal places are there to wheel in NOVA? .

this is a perfect example of a winter fever thread.
Whos ready to play on Saturday when everyone else is scratching their heads as to what they should do about a possible 2 feet of snow around their cars

Lifting a Jeep does not effect that inspection rule. Removing a swaybar, or running around with a block lift does. Changing stock suspension parts with aftermarket does not break that rule.

None! There are also no legal places in NOVA to pick up a prostitute, I have to go to Nevada for that if I want it. Does that mean the hooka's at the Greyhound station should be allowed to carry on business because Nevada is too far away?
Take it all with a grain of salt, but yes....It's bad for the sport, we feed the tree huggers more ammo and it does adversely effect our sport and keeping our lands open for use.

I believe my signature says I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee and a 1987 Toyota Celica GT-S (don't have the Grand Prix anymores), so no, I do not have a 4wd bike.
As for the environmental impact if I am in a park, not yet, haven't taken it off of public roads yet (some have been dirt, and in NM, some were barely trails) as my Jeep isn't ready for it, so you're getting high and mighty with the WRONG person right now. However, the fact is that we are able to MINIMIZE our impact by wheeling in LEGAL places, and by HOW whe wheel. Try to do as little damage to the area as possible, pack out what you pack in, etc. I'm sure you know how to do this better than I do. People who wheel illegally have no idea WHAT impact they are having, as they likely do not know what is in their surrounding area. What if they run over a critically endangered animal while they are out there? Oh well, right?

like squirrels? haha come one dude seriously most animals stay away from a jeep comin down the trails......I grew up on 170 acres and I went wheeling hunting fishing and camping all the time and it didnt have much impact on anything.....
